Abstract

A general introduction to Urban Drainage and Water supply system is provided by this module. Urban drainage systems have existed for a long time as a vital city infrastructure to collect and convey stormwater and wastewater away from urban areas. Nowadays it remains a significant challenge to design an effective functioning drainage system. In particular, impacts due to climate change and urbanization have been widely acknowledged, which could entail a substantial increase in the frequency and magnitude of urban flooding in many regions of the world.

The purpose of distribution system is to deliver water to consumer with appropriate quality, quantity and pressure. Distribution system is used to describe collectively the facilities used to supply water from its source to the point of usage.

Topics covered in this section include: objectives of urban drainage, the need to drain of stormwater and wastewater, hydrological process, natural versus urban water cycles, and stormwater drainage approaches. Effects of climate change and urbanization are also discussed in detail

This course aims at providing an explanation of the elements and processes involved in the urban drainage systems and a recommendation of appropriate application

The training material consist of presentations, supporting documents and a web lecture. The module is a self-learning module.

Learning outcomes

When completing this module, the learner will be provided with an understanding of the basic principles and knowledge of water supply system.

This seminar aims at managers, professionals as well as stakeholders interested in the Underground assets management field.

Pre-requisites

No specific prerequisites, but basic knowledge about the function of the web is recommended.
